A house explosion occurred at 1010 N. Weinbach Ave., in Evansville, Ind., killing three people, and damaging 39 homes on Wednesday afternoon, August 10, 2022. The victims were Charlie Hite, 43, and Martina Hite, 37, who were a month away from celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary, and Jessica Teague, 29, who was one of the next-door neighbors to the Hites. The cause of the explosion is currently undetermined, and local and state emergency first responders and Centerpoint Energy workers are working to find a conclusion. There were 11 homes after the blast that were deemed uninhabitable due to damage sustained in the explosion and will be bulldozed and have to be rebuilt. This has inevitably displaced many families living on Weinbach and while some have made plans to continue living in this neighborhood, others have decided to leave their homes for good.
